What is PSH?
The Pint Size Heroes program is a Red Cross initiative specially designed to introduce children to the blood donation process. This program is comprised of a fun, educational segment and a blood drive held at a participating elementary or middle school. Students are encouraged to play a major role in the process by recruiting a parent, guardian or other adult to give blood.
Children can and do help the American Red Cross make a difference. Tomorrow’s life-saving blood donations will be made by today’s children who are taught the importance of giving blood as well as being involved in the community.
Why become a PSH sponsor?
Involving children in activities related to blood donation is a step towards building a strong foundation of future blood donors. In addition, becoming a Pint Size Hero sponsor provides education to your students, offers tangible benefit to the community, recognizes your student’s non-academic efforts and attracts positive publicity and good-will to your school.
Check out what fellow PSH sponsors and students have to say:
“We found out it wasn't that hard to run the Pint Size Heroes Blood Drive. Red Cross helped us with everything we needed, and we are going to hold more drives now because it was so easy and so successful!" Michelle Naylor, Guidance Counselor
"It was a pretty good idea because it's helping people out." Brent, 4th grader and Pint Size Hero
"The American Red Cross Pint Size Hero project is a wonderful program for our students, parents and teachers. The program helps build citizenship skills by giving students, parents, and teachers an opportunity to give back to their communities in northeastern Ohio. It is important for our students to realize, through personal experience, with a project like this, that all American citizens have a responsibility to help others in need. Not only is the program helping students build good citizenship skills, but the program also increases the students' self-esteem by allowing them to participate in saving people's lives. What a great cause!" Kay Burns, Teacher/Coordinator
"It was really nice people were doing the blood drive because they were helping other people." Chlesea, 2nd grader and Pint Size Hero
